Really interesting disscusion. I didn’t realized this was such a uniquely North American thing until recent years. Well no that’s not true, I vaguely know a little about this but never quite have the full grasp of the situation be as you know, not having one. Reading through it tho, I do feel that for something that is irreversible procedure, excuses like “it has always been done this way” or “so he won’t be different from the others” seem weak. Especially considering all the differences that is mental and physical we choose to embrace now and the molds we are trying to break as a society.
